This project begins as a portfolio of ten photographs that explore my interests in alternative narratives, representations of reality and elements of time in film and still photography. The project aims to explore the lived experience of making and seeing the work. An interactive element during exhibition encourages visitors to share their comments, and the work is expected to evolve differently with each sharing. Overall, the project confirms the presence of both the artist and collaborators in unique co-creative space.
The plan for this series of photographs was to document and observe my experience of time with Lygia, my children’s 94-year-old paternal grandmother. My presentation includes a collaborative book titled EYES FORWARD “For Lygia” based on the photographic images we produced that day. I then sent the book to twelve different people. I invited their participation to select a page and then to mark the space on the page as they wished, with a response or reflection before returning the book to me. The artwork and the process confirmed our presence together in this collaboration.
My intention with this work is to create a space for the mind and hand to wander beyond the margins and the edges of the page. I am interested in how the collective images and responses will occur for me and others each time I share this artwork.
